Goodyear is a city with a territory of 130 square miles, situated in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States.
Such famous baseball teams as Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds of the Major League Baseball practice their trainings in Goodyear Ballpark. Goodyear Ballpark is a baseball complex, which was opened in 2009 and belongs to Goodyear city.
Goodyear started to be established by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1917, when the company purchased the land with the purpose to garden cotton for automobile tire threads. The area was chosen due to its dry and hot climate, similar to Egyptian one, from where the cotton was previously imported. Considering that Egyptian cotton threads were being produced in the area, the town was originally named Egypt, however soon the town got its name as Goodyear Farms. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is one of the famous tire producing factories, which was set up in1898 in Akron, Ohio. The company received its name after Charles Goodyear, who invented vulcanized rubber, and produces tires for different types of vehicles.
Years of World War II were significant for Goodyear as the current Phoenix Goodyear Airport was established; however after the war the economy had its depression. In 1946 Goodyear was incorporated as a town. In 1980 the population voted for Goodyear to become a city.
During World War II, the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation was known to be formed by the Goodyear Rubber Company, with the Litchfield Naval Air Facility next to it. The company was constructing awnings and other necessary parts for Navy planes, as well as the air balloons that led to the famous Goodyear blimps. The Litchfield Naval Air Facility had about 132 Navy blimps which were defending the shores and also being used as radar stations. After the war, the factory extended blimps production, soon turning into Goodyear Aerospace.
Nowadays key industries of Goodyear are aviation and aerospace manufacturing, medical and health services, retail and entertainment as well as higher education. Goodyear is one of the rapidly growing cities of the US. Besides the Phoenix Goodyear Airport, people may use also Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which is not so far from the city. There are also two railroads.
Goodyear received one of the authoritative national awards: the All-America City award, which is given by the National Civic League, being recognized for hard-working and team-made community.
With a rich, rewarding quality of life and tremendous community spirit, Goodyear was the recipient of two prestigious national awards in 2008: the All-America City award from the National Civic League and City Livability award by The United States Conference of Mayors

Majority of the population are of white race, comprising 79.4%, and 28.4% of them being of Hispanic and Latino race.
